Merewether is a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, with a population of roughly 11,000 people. It is located 3 kilometres (2 miles) from Newcastle’s core business district. From Merewether Beach in the east to Adamstown in the west, the suburb runs for 3 kilometres (2 miles).

Merewether is home to some of Newcastle’s most well-known beaches. Dixon Park Beach leads south to Merewether Beach and then on to Burwood Beach, which leads to Glenrock Lagoon. The Merewether Ocean Baths, the largest ocean baths in the Southern Hemisphere, are located at the southern end of Merewether Beach. Merewether Beach is home to Merewether SLSC, the Hunter Region’s oldest lifesaving club, and Merewether Surfboard Club, Australia’s most successful boardriders club.
